Suzuki Cello Teacher Trainer, Workshop Clinician, and Pedagogical Coach
Dr. Shu-Yi Scott is a sought-after Suzuki cello teacher trainer and international workshop clinician, known for her dynamic teaching style, clear pedagogical strategies, and ability to connect with students and teachers of all levels. A member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas Teacher Development Committee (2023–2025), she brings a wealth of insight, experience, and warmth to every teaching environment.
Originally from Taipei, Taiwan and now Dr. Scott divides her time between Austin, Texas and New York City. In Austin she directs the Scott Cello Studio and the Austin Cello Festival, a vibrant celebration of community, pedagogy, and performance, and serves as President of the Austin Youth Orchestra, where she champions inclusive ensemble training that nurtures both musical excellence and student development across all levels. She previously served on the Suzuki Association of the Americas Training Committee (2023–2025). Having taught both of her own daughters cello, she brings the perspective of a Suzuki parent as well as a teacher trainer.
Dr. Scott is dedicated to building thriving, joyful learning communities for students and teachers alike. With her signature group class curriculum and her global teacher training initiatives, she has trained and mentored over 400 teachers and given workshops across the U.S., Mexico, Asia, and Europe.

Her workshops show teachers how to embrace the "mother tongue" approach with mixed-level groups while honoring the individual journey of each child.
Dr. Scott has also launched several acclaimed online courses, including How to Convey Tactile Knowledge Through Online Lesson Formats and Shu-Yi & Merlin: Let’s Talk About Music Teaching, a podcast and video series co-created with Canadian Suzuki piano teacher trainer Dr. Merlin Thompson.
Whether leading a Book 1 class or mentoring advanced teens, Dr. Scott brings deep expertise, contagious energy, and a strong sense of purpose to every workshop. Her programs are high-impact, inclusive, and designed to inspire long-term growth for students, teachers, and families.
